STATSnet sprl, located in Brussels, provides counters for websites. Prior to changing the name of its service to Counted!™, the counters were served through Net-Trak™ ("the first counter to include Country and Referrer Stats").

Counted! provides clients with statistics that "...include among others, Operating System, Browser and Plug-in stats, information about the visitors screen resolution and color depth and very extensive referrer stats." There's no telling what statistics "among others" might include.

STATSnet also provides a co-branded Counter Service to ISPs. These counters "...run on our servers and look like their service." In return, STATSnet gets a percentage of revenue generated "...from the cobranded pages and the sites of your customers in our database. We will then display those sites in the Counted! Site List and mark them with a little icon to show people that they are using your service."

The Counted! service is powered by Trakkerd™, the counter component of STATSnet proprietary software collection. The other two technology components are Sitelistd and STATSview, both used by clients to manage their STATS data and accounts.

STATSnet's Counted! portal entry is www.counted.com, a combination site that provides a statistic service for website owners and a search engine for web users. On June 6, 2000, STATSnet started up a German version at www.counted.de.

Privacy Information  

STATSnet Privacy Policy: There is no policy on the STATSnet site itself. The Policy is on the counted.com site www.counted.com/information/privacy/ and is applicable only to that site. They use cookies and collect "anonymous" user information from browsers and clickstream data:

"Your IP address is used to gather broad demographic information. We use cookies for other statistical analysis. This allows us to measure and report aggregate information such as the number of different people who visit our pages (reach) and the number of times people return (frequency). [...] Counted! will only store information provided voluntarily and this information is not personally identifiable."

Unless you register with them for something. Then your email address is kept and you're put on their mailing list. They also collect "...online contact information (email only) from children without prior parental consent or parental notification. This is non personal information and we do not collect the name of anyone. We need the eMail to send the account information to the customer."

Ads are served on Counted! sites by Flycast, owned by Engage (profiled separately on this site). "These ads may contain cookies. While we use cookies in other parts of our Web site, cookies received with banner ads are collected by our ad company, and we do not have access to this information."

Opt-Out Option: "If for some reason you would rather not take advantage of the benefits made possible with cookies, most browsers allow you to reject cookies or to choose which cookies to accept."

In 1999, STATSnet partnered with Maidstone, a design, hosting and domain registration business in the UK. Sites hosted by Maidstone include both STATSnet counters and ads served by Advertising.com / Teknosurf (profiled separately on this site). Maidstone hosted sites include domainauctions.com, www.domainauctions.com and freewebsites.com, www.freewebsites.com. The freewebsites servers are included on the Hosts File list because they also sell banners that are placed on other websites.

The Maidstone Privacy Policy www.maidstone.com/privacy.html is applicable to their site only, not hosted sites. They don't use cookies on their site and state that "Any and all information collected at this site will be kept strictly confidential and will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed. Any information you give to maidstone net will be held with the utmost care, and will not be used in ways that you have not consented to."
