Your data, honestly handled.

I write about analytics — so it would be ironic to play loose with yours. Here's exactly what this site does and doesn't collect, in plain language. No dark patterns, no hidden tracking.

TL;DR

  • ✓ No newsletter, no account, no comments — there's nothing to sign up for.
  • ✓ Anonymous analytics via Google Analytics 4 — only if you accept the cookie banner.
  • ✓ Cloudflare provides DDoS protection & CDN — sees your IP for security purposes.
  • ✓ If you email me, I keep that email — for as long as we're talking, then I delete it.
  • ✓ No third-party advertising, no cross-site tracking, no data brokers.

Who runs this site

accs-net.com is run by Tom Martin, an independent web analyst writing about Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and ecommerce tracking. The site has no parent company, no investors, and no advertising partnerships. It's a one-person reference site funded by occasional consulting work.

What this site collects automatically

Server logs

Like every web server, accs-net.com records request logs containing your IP address, the page you requested, your browser user-agent, and the timestamp. These logs are retained for 7 days for security and debugging purposes (e.g. blocking abuse) and are then automatically deleted.

Cloudflare

This site sits behind Cloudflare, which provides DDoS protection, caching, and a content delivery network. Cloudflare may briefly process your IP address to apply security rules. Cloudflare's privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy.

What this site collects with your consent

Google Analytics 4

If you accept the cookie banner, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to count anonymous page views and understand which articles are useful. GA4 stores a first-party cookie (_ga) in your browser that contains an anonymous identifier (client_id) — not your name, email, or precise location.

Google's GA4 data practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can:

I never see individual visitor data — only aggregated counts (e.g. "this article had 1,200 readers last week").

What I do NOT collect

  • No advertising cookies. The site has no ads.
  • No third-party trackers beyond GA4 — no Meta Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight, no Hotjar.
  • No fingerprinting. No canvas-based identifiers, no audio-context probing.
  • No data sales. Your data is never sold or shared with brokers.

Email correspondence

If you email info@accs-net.com, I keep that email thread for as long as we're actively discussing your question. After 6 months of inactivity on a thread, I delete it. I don't add you to any list, I don't share your email, and I don't use it for marketing.

Embedded content

Some articles embed YouTube videos, CodeSandbox demos, or similar third-party content. When you load a page with embedded content, the third-party provider may collect data as if you'd visited their site directly — see the relevant provider's privacy policy for details.

Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Even though this site collects very little, you have the same rights as on any other site:

  • Access — request a copy of any data I hold about you.
  • Correction — ask me to correct inaccurate data.
  • Deletion — ask me to delete data (e.g. our email correspondence).
  • Objection — withdraw consent for analytics at any time.
  • Complaint — lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in the UK that's the ICO).

To exercise any of these rights, email info@accs-net.com with "Privacy request" in the subject line. I'll respond within 30 days (usually much sooner).

Children

This site is aimed at adults working with web analytics professionally. It is not directed at children under 16 and I don't knowingly collect data from anyone in that age group.

Changes to this policy

If I make material changes to how data is handled, I'll update this page and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Minor wording fixes happen silently.
